100 Years on Skates
The joint centenary exhibition of the Finnish Skating Association and the Finnish Figure Skating Association presented Finland’s long and respectable traditions in both speed skating and figure skating. Speed skaters Gustaf Estlander (1898) and Fredrik Wathén (1901) became the first Finnish European and world champions in any sport, respectively. As for figure skating, the pairs skaters Ludowika and Walter Jakobsson won the first Olympic gold medal for Finland as an independent nation in Antwerp 1920. The exhibition featured a wide range prizes, skates and skating outfits spanning a full century.
